. Large handblown antique storage or food jar of the very delirable dark wine-bottle green color. This jar is 12 inches high and has a diameter of about 5. It weighs just a bit under 3 pounds.

Lots of quaint irregularities fairly narrow neck indentation, some surface scratches and small bubbles. It has one larger bubble, about ½ an inch across on which the thin upper layer has chipped, giving it a particaularly individual character (see detailed photographs of this feature).

It has a partially polished shallow pontil on the bottom and good wear marks. In France these are called bocals (jars) or cornichons , which is the word for small pickled cucumbers. They were filled with food for preserving and then a cloth was placed over the top and tied around the crimped neck.
