Up for sale is a classic and classy 1840s or 50s yellow amber hand-blown Demijohn bottle. I'd attribute it to an early New England glasshouse in maybe New Hampshire or Connecticut.

It's cylindrical in body shape with a graceful curve up to the nice thick neck. It has an applied drippy taper lip with an interesting kinda slumpy shape.

It's a pretty early form and sort of "transitional" between the even earlier sloping shoulder "bullet" demijohns, and the more abrupt shouldered and molded type which followed. It's 12.5" tall and 6.5" diameter at the base. It's got a pushed-up base with a wide thick open pontil scar in the middle. Maybe a "glass chip" pontil? At any rate, wanna talk about "a pontil so sharp it'll cut you", I actually DID get a little cut from a pointy glass chip on this one while inspecting it.

Its color is not the lightest purest yellow you'll ever see but it's solidly on the Yellow side of "yellow amber" with a pleasing gradient towards the thicker pontil area and lip. I've pictured it with a few different backgrounds and as you can see, it's fairly translucent... Or it would be, if not for the galaxy of bubbles throughout the entire bottle!!

It's as seedy as it gets. There's an absolute maelstrom of glass swirls / loose glass threads which tentacled their way around and adhered to the surface of the glass too. According to my understanding of glassblowing techniques, the presence of these textured threads indicates that the bottle was most likely fully and skillfully free blown, or maybe lightly shaped with the use of a dip mold.

It is in perfect condition, it is just the very best possible example. No chips no cracks not a ping. I suspect from the lack of any base wear, or wear anywhere, that this bottle was safely wrapped up in protective wicker its whole life, and a collector before me must have unwrapped it from the wicker, finding this perfect gem underneath.

Must've been quite a good feeling!!! This is backed up by a crosshatched residual dust pattern in spots on the surface. It had a cushy life and was kept safe and covered for long enough, now it gets to show off its true color and character! It's a vital organization and there's truly no other community like it, online or offline.
