Condition : Bottle is in good sturdy condition. When found this bottle was filled with old, half corroded tablets, which did not look too pleasing. We discarded the tablets and washed the bottle out but there is still quite a bit of content stain from the old tablets.
Otherwise the bottle is great, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. The little tin cap is old and corroded but still seals the bottle. The label kind of fills in the blanks about what these bottles held. They were made in this shape so they could easily fit into a pocket or purse with pills and tablets. Charcoal tablets were/are for indigestion issues, so in this shape of bottle they would always be on hand.
As time went on, the bottles were eventually replaced with tin containers, wooden boxes and eventually cardboard and paper tubes. As mentioned, these are not common to find today, and in this little oval shape they are popular among collectors. Do not let the screw top fool you, this is a super early hand blown glass bottle , the glass threads on this bottle were actually formed by the hands of an early day artistic glass blower in one of early day glass houses in the eastern USA.
