Offered here is a fabulous Black Glass (very very dark green glass) Freeblown wide body cylinder or mallet of English origin probably dating mid 1700's. A truly impressive bottle this. This is a real stunner, truly black and thick glass and heavy, there is a nice in manufacture irregularity in the lip and neck where it is slightly flattened but also has a small spur of glass sticking out of the neck. Full body sheen all over, the glass is very thick near the base and some sagging there from when the glass was still moving and cooling when the bottle was being finished.
The bottle is heavy and would of been stable on a table in an Ale house of the 1700's. Nice chunky tooled double collar lip that is free from chips or cracks, usual de corking marks at top & inner lip edges, a shallow kick up and a reasonably smooth wide Pontil scar. There is a small area at the base side that appears to have either been exposed to heat or its just where a piece of grit in the molten glass has caused a dull area and what looks like an internal bruise, the line running at an angle is a surface scratch not a crack, a strong light has been shone inside and out to inspect the line, an extra photo added to show this, priced to reflect this identified flaw, which could of been in manufacture. Bottle is in Great condition especially considering its age, no cracks, no repairs. But note the base internal bruise condition included above.
Diameter at base 95mm or just over 3 3/4 inch and 240mm tall or 9 1/2 inch tall. See all photos, please excuse any camera glare appearing as bright streaks on bottle, happy to answer questions.
