Here is a bottle very few California Gold Rush bottle collectors will have in their collection- early 1850s blackglass 3-piece mold ale embossed. "Aspinwall/(WBJ in Diamond)/Panama".
Although English made, this bottle is synonymous with the California Gold Rush. This ale bottle was made for a company that set. Up at the eastern end of the Panama Railroad (in what is now called Colón but was then called Aspinwall) during the California gold rush to cater to the miners and fortune seekers that were traveling to California. Although we think of settlers migrating to California via horse and wagon, in reality, the majority traveled by boat to Panama then back up the coast on another boat.
A fantastic piece of Gold Rush history, and a bottle that rarely comes available! This one is as good as it gets, and still has some of the original foil around the neck! The glass displays some nice character and whittle. The bottle measures a little over 9 tall, and has whats referred to as a refired pontil.
100% original condition with no chips, cracks, flakes or damage. Not very many black glass embossed 3-pt mold pontiled Gold Rush bottles out there.
