René Lalique designed his complete "Garniture de Toilette (Bathroom Set) Dahlia" in 1931 (photo 9 from the Marcilhac book, the unofficial Lalique "Bible"). It included 8 pieces: 4 bottles, 3 boxes and a bowl for a sponge.

The decoration of each bottle is over the faces, an elaborately sculpted dahlia flower with each petal finely chiseled and with black enameled individual pistils (see photo 6). The sides of the bottle are in flush frosted glass. Here is a Bottle Nr. 1" 21 cm or or 8 1/4" wide, 3 thick and weighing 2 Lbs.

It was intended for lotions or shampoos. This particular bottle probably dates from the 1950's, as the size was discontinued around 1960. It is ulterior to René Lalique's death in 1945 as the signature here, "Lalique France" in script (photo 8), was not used during his lifetime. One thing is lucky with those bottles and with most Lalique bathroom sets: The details and the quality of the production remained as good after WW2 as they were when René Lalique was at the helm, and there is no difference between the Pre-War and the Post-War ones, except of course the signature. The bottle here is as detailed and precise as those from 1931.

In particular, the enamel on the pistil in the center was always applied by hand, never with machines. The result is worth it. The "Dahlia" bath set is repertoried and classified in the large Marcilhac book, on page 346 of the 2011 French printing (photo 9). This bottle, including the stopper (round, frosted and plain, see photo 3), is in excellent condition with no chip, dent or any irregularity. Even the bottom has no visible usage lines, something which is not often the case due to scratching under the base. The bottle can be described as "Mint".
