LARGE 18th CENTURY BLOWN GLASS FARMER'S FLASK

  
Hereis a great rarity; a very large blown glass flask, from the mountainregion of France / Spain and dating to the 18th century! Theselarge flasks were produced in Languedoc, France and Catalonia, Spain. Undoubted by some of the same glass blowers who migrated from regionto region. They are indicative to the Pyrenees Mountain region andwere carried by goat herders, sheep herders, farmers and all types ofother people on horses through the rough terrain. They were blown in the old German half-post methodemploying 2 gathers of glass.

The same method was used on theAmerican Pitkin flasks. Some of these giant flasks had plain shearedlips and some had tooled folded lips. Ours has a folded lip. It is alovely deep aqua color with lots of swirls in glass. One of thesebottles, in a lovely deep blue/green color, is pictured in the bookFlasche, Bottle und Bouteille by Rainer Kosler, page 469, see photo.

Kosler dates it to the first half of the 18th century. 10 ½ tall and perfect! Please be patient when inquiring or ordering.
