SQUAT BLACK GLASS ALE BOTTLE-Wedge Top-Three Piece Mold-Sticky Pontil-1840s. Offered is a selection consisting of one authentic Black Glass Ale bottle, dating between the mid 1840s and mid 1850s. Bottle is Blown In Mold manufacture style(BIM), with a crude wedge top finish. Offered is an excellent example of a smaller than normally seen early black glass ale or stout bottle dating from the mid 1840s to early 1850s. The bottle stands 6 5/8"tall, is 2 7/8"across at the base, has a circular shaped kickup on bottom containing remnants of a refired sand pontil scar, with one portion being pulled to a sharp point. Center has a raised dot inside a crude ring. Three piece mold manufacture style.

This color closely resembles other pieces Ive seen from this period that are attributed to Stoddard. Great crude example of early black glass! >>There are two tiny flakes on edge of lip, as noted in pictures. Also, some light superficial scratching. The bottle has been dug and has light ground hazing, no damage unless noted.
